18 year old freshmen student, Thomas Schwanke, was found injured at a Southern Illinois University Edwardsville dormitory basement located on campus, today 7:40 a.m. by Police.
Police believe Schwanke fell anywhere between two to ten stories down a trash chute around 2 a.m. Schwanke is currently being treated at Anderson Hospital on Maryville. The extent of his injures are unknown.
Witnesses who saw Schwanke earlier that morning say that Schwanke was drinking. “The incident again raises concern about alcohol abuse on campus.” said Mary Rouse, Dean of students at the university.
